Breeding and showing dogs are passions I have pursued for over 40 years. At times I had only a shoe-string budget, in later years I’ve had the luxury to support a team of top professionals.

AlCher Dobermans goes back to 1972. I have bred and owned over 150 champions over my lifetime, including Dobermans, Whippets, Pointers, Great Danes and Shih Tzus, some of whom I showed myself, while others were shown by top handlers.

I am privileged to have known most all of notable dog experts from the past, and was fortunate to have been mentored by many legendary breeders in the 1970’s and 80’s, which gave me a solid foundation in Dobermans. The great Bettye Carter of Classic Kennel had the strongest impact on me, helping shape my vision of the ideal Dobermans, while giving me insight into all that breeding entails. When Bettye succumbed to cancer in the late 80’s I took a break from dogs to start my business – Benefit Consultants Inc.

I enjoyed great success in business, but eventually my passion drew me back to dogs, and I re-entered the world of showing in 2000 with CH Monarch’s One Cool Guy. I then partnered with Phillmar Dobermans, which brought me the pleasure of co-owning and sponsoring BIS BISS Ch Phillmar Thunderella CD LC-10D and BIS BISS Ch Phillmar X-Static CD WAC ROM. During my 11 years of co-breeding with Philip Martin under the Phillmar Kennel Name, our combined knowledge and experience let to me breeding and co-owning 17 Dobermans who were in the DPCA Top Twenty In Conformation, seven of whom have been Top Twenty Finalists, two have been in the DPCA Top Twenty in Obedience, five have been Best in Show winners, one is the first recipient of the DPCA Ryan Award. I have bred and co-owned over twenty Breed and Specialty winners, the 2009 Westminster Kennel Club Best of Opposite, the 2009 DPCA National Best Veteran and first Award of Merit, the winner of the 2005 Eukanuba National, and the Apex Award. And in October 2016 BIS BISS GCH Phillmar Ms. Marvel, owned by Bern Kennedy and co-bred and co-owned by myself, won the Top Twenty at the DPCA National in St. Charles, Illinois.

I look back fondly on the joy these dogs have brought me, and I will always want to see bits and pieces of them living on in their progeny. Recently I felt it was time to bring AlCher back to life, to continue my focus on breeding dogs of great quality for both show and companionship.

I am excited about future generations and look forward to producing many more beautiful Dobermans under the AlCher kennel prefix. As always, my goal is to continue to breed the all around Doberman who excels in the conformation and obedience show rings, and at home as a beloved companion.

In March of 2016 I was honored to be the subject of Doberman Digest featured Breeder Article, which is provided below. Please Enjoy!
